Philippine bantamweight champion Michael Domingo faces a crucial title defense against top challenger Johnny Lear in an exciting fight card put together by well-known promoter Sammy Gello-ani in cooperation with the Metropolis and Ringside Boxing Club at the Metropolis Mall in Alabang, Muntinglupa today.

Fresh from a spectacular seventh round TKO of Mexican veteran Alejandro Felix Montiel in the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Oscar Larios "Mano-A-Mano" showdown last July 2 in which he put on a performance that made officials of Golden Boy Promotions and boxing aficionados sit up and take notice.

Domingo is determined to follow up with another impressive victory over Lear which may earn him a chance to move up in the world ratings and earn a fight in the US. Former WBC super flyweight champion Gerry Penalosa has said he was impressed by the way Domingo fought Montiel.

Since moving to the famed ALA Gym of respected boxing patron Tony Aldeguer, Domingo has won his last eight fights. He now has a record of 28-14-14 knockouts Domingo knows his title defense against Lear wont be an easy fight since the challenger who is ranked No.2 by the Philippine Games and Amusements Board and No. 8 by the OPBF has a record of `16-11-1 with 6 KO's and has won his last five fights including a unanimous decision over former champion Joel Bauya from whom Domingo won the title.

The Domingo-Lear title fight will be telecast on the top rated weekly boxing show "The Main Event" at 1:00 p.m.tomorrow July 16 over RPN 9, sponsored by Tanduay, the No.1 Rhum with two stunningly attractive Viva Hot Babes, Tanduay calendar girl Rene Summer and Louie Anderson serving as round girls.

The exciting undercard features Fabio Marfa vs Alfred Nagal, Rocky Fuentes vs Ricky Manatad and Louie Bantigue vs Jongjong Gaganti among others while Honolulu lightweight Van Oscar Penovaroff will make his pro debut in a four round curtain raiser against Beboy Cudeldiego.
