THE ?FAKE? GENARO GARCIA

Genaro ?Panterita? Garcia when he came here has a professional record of 10-11 with 6 KOs. All his losses were via knockout. And it now includes the 12th loss inflected by the second round KO by Ray ?Boom Boom? Bautista during the Pinoy Pride XII ?Bakbakan sa Bohol.?

He proved to be an easy prey for the thundering right hand of Bautista after body shots weakened the Mexican in the second round.

It was very obvious that this Genaro Garcia is a patsy, with more losses than wins. He came to Bohol without a trainer escorting him.

After winning six straight bouts when he started his professional career, he lost his next three fights. And after a single win, he was again defeated in the next four bouts.

Prior to his fight with Bautista in Bohol, he was defeated by fellow Mexican Nery Saguilan by first round TKO. This Genaro Garcia has not fought a single title bout not even a local championship fight in his native Mexico.

The Genaro Garcia who arrived disclosed that he has 28 wins (10 KOs), eight losses and one draw. But no one would believe him for that record was nowhere to be found in boxrec and other documents.

One thing about Panterita though was he admitted right away that it was not his face which was posted in the Pinoy Pride XII posters.

On the other hand, the intended opponent Genaro ?Poblanito? Garcia has 38 wins, 8 losses with 22 wins by KOs. He would have been a tougher adversary.

He has fought world title bouts including WBF super flyweight championship, WBC bantamweight championship, IBF bantamweight championship, and WBC super bantamweight championship. But unfortunately he lost all these world championships.

He was able to win though the WBC FECARBOX bantamweight title and was able to defend it several times. FECARBOX means Federacion Centroamericana de Boxeo Profesional.

Panterita is from Mexico City while Poblanito was born in Buenaventura, Chihuahua, Mexico and is fighting out of Puebla, Mexico.

The irony is that the mistaken identity of two Genaro Garcias happened in the fight at the Carlos P. Garcia Sports Complex at Tagbilaran, Bohol.

It would have been a good boxing festival at the beautiful island province, with the ABAP national amateur boxing championships to follow the next day. Several tourists both foreign and domestic watched with enthusiasm the pet boxing promotion Pinoy Pride of ALA Gym.

ALA Promotions did an honorable gesture of refunding all sold tickets and admitting all boxing fans for free to save the hullabaloo brought by their Mexican agent. The agent said to be Victor Hugo Correa should be liable for the damages incurred by the fraud.
