In its quest to give the defending champion and host-Negros Occidental softball squad a good fight in the upcoming 2012 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet this March 12 -16, 2012 here in Bacolod City, the Iloilo softball team has tapped the services of former Negros-Paglaum pitcher Freddie Posadas as part of their training staff.

This was confirmed yesterday by former Negros softball team head coach and 16-time Palarong Pambansa softball mentor Tony Oquindo ? who is currently joined by 2003 World Series Little League Softball champion mentor Reynaldo ?Guy? Fuentes in the Iloilo squad.

Posadas is the younger brother of another multi-titled national softball coach Hernando ?Kulafu? Posadas.

The younger Posadas was part of the La Carlota Sugar Barons that settled as runner-up behind the eventual champion Manila?s Finest during the National Men?s Open Softball Championships held last January 30, 1993 at the Paglaum Sports Complex in Bacolod City.

Meanwhile, Oquindo said that they will be coming out with the final list of players next week.

The Iloilo softball teams are composed of players mostly from Zaraga?s elementary and secondary schools, and to be officially headed by Melo Pdregoza (elementary) and Romeo Golez (secondary).

Both squads won last year?s provincial meet in Iloilo after a long title drought since 1988.

Prior to the teams? provincial meet appearance, the Zaraga squads won over San Miguel softball teams mentored by the older Posadas in the hotly contested finals in their District.

On the other hand, the Negros team will be bannered by Domingo Lacson National High School.
