BACOLOD CITY ? The undefeated and current Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) Minimumweight Champion Merlito ?Tiger? Sabillo is set to face Indonesia Boxing Commission Minimumweight Champion Sofyan Effendi in the undercard of the ALA Promotions and ABS-CBN Sports? Pinoy Pride XI scheduled January 28, 2012 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

The Sabillo-Effendi 8-round match will be one of the most exciting supporting bouts in Pinoy Pride XI featuring Milan ?El Metodico? Melindo as its main event.

The Toboso-born and Bacolod City-raised Sabillo, started his professional boxing career in 2008 and later earned the Philippine Minimumweight Championship belt via a unanimous victory over Jetly Purisima. That was the third straight defeat of Purisima in the hands of Sabillo.

Sabillo was ale to defend his belt twice ? one against Donny Mabao last November 2010 via a unanimous decision and then against Roger Echavez last April of 2011 on a 7th round TKO.

With Sabillo?s impressive record, it paved way for him to take a more challenging chapter of his career ? a fight in for then vacant OPBF Minimumweight crown.

In October 2011, Sabillo earned the OPBF Minimumweight championship title after winning over a much-experienced Rodel Tejares Singwancha in the undercard of the Donnie Nietes-Ramon Garcia WBO World Junior Flyweight Championship featured in the Pinoy Pride IX held at the University of St. La Salle in Bacolod City.

Singwancha was deducted twice, in rounds 4 and 5, for repeated low blows on Sabillo.

With his recent achievement on top of the ring, the Bacolod-based boxer is officially a part of ALA Promotions? roster of fighters along with recently-crowned OPBF Light Welterweight champion Romeo ?Jako? Jakosalem and the current Philippines GAB Flyweight Champion Arthur ?El Matador? Villanueva, to mention a few.

Sabillo is one of the top Filipino fighters to watch out for this year. This is part of ALA Promotions? thrust to feature top Filipino fighters in the world stage.*
