A big return battle between newly-crowned PABA welter champ Dondon Sultan and ex-champ Anton Solopov is said to be in the works, said sources close to the situation.
The giant-killing Sultan, who is currently in his hometown in Labason, Zamboanga Del Norte for a much-deserved vacation, stopped the formerly undefeated Solopov in a single round in front of the latter's hometown fans in Surgut, Russia.
Solopov, who is managed by the legendary Kostya Tszyu, was a celebrated amateur fighter before turning pro, and boasts of a win over the hugely-popular Miguel Cotto.
He had racked up twelve straight wins in his pro career and was poised to fight for the bigger titles, before running into the very dangerous Sultan, who came into their fight with the RP title strapped to his waist.
"The date being worked out is sometime in September. This fight will most likely push through, and after we take care of Solopov in the rematch, Sultan might fight in the US next against a big name," informed Sammy 'Don King' Gello-ani, in an interview with this writer before leaving for Singapore to accompany Bart Abapo, who is himself vying for the PABA junior welter title on Thursday.
Although vacationing in his hometown, Sultan has kept himself in shape by hitting the road daily and doing light workouts, as he plans to stop Solopov once again in the rematch.
"Maybe next time, he will be more generous. Maybe he'll allow Solopov to last two rounds," said another source.
