MURCIA, NEGROS OCCIDENTAL ? Town Mayor Andrew Montelibano on Saturday stressed, during the staging of their boxing tournament, that he will strongly push and support the implementation of boxing-related programs in his locality.
His statement came after seeing great potentials from the roster of protagonists, who competed during the weekend?s 2011 Mayor Andrew L. Montelibano Boxing Tournament held at the town?s plaza.
Murcia-hailed World Boxing Federation Donne ?Ahas? Nietes also graced the event.
?Long before that, we have great potentials in our town that were, maybe, not given that much attention. All we need is to explore and identify good players from our different barangays. With the right training and support, we can produce great fighters from Mucia,? the local executive explained. He further added that it?s high time to reach out to the barangays and bring the said program.
Meanwhile, Montelibano admitted that it would be hard to implement the program without the facilities and equipment to support it. Thus, either in the last week of January or first week of February next year, the needed support, such as the boxing ring and other equipment, will be available.
Moreover, to further provide avenue for exposure and experience, the local government of Murcia will be staging a town-based boxing tournament in summer.
