Indonesian Daudy Bahari will defend his Pan-Asia Boxing Association (PABA) super-lightweight crown against Philippine national champ Bart Abapo in a 12-round showdown on June 15 at the ballroom of Swissotel The Stamford in Singapore.
At a special press conference held last Wednesday by the organizing Meridian Promotions, Bahari and Abapo met for the first time, as promoters launched Singapore's first pro boxing event after almost two decades of absence.

"Boxing is a high octane sport and boxers display tremendous skills and courage when they are out on the ring. The sport has a rich history here and we are extremely proud to be able to bring the sport back to Singapore. It is our aim to promote both amateur and professional boxing as an established sport, and a newly revitalized entertainment and tourist attraction in Singapore. The title clash between Bahari and Abapo is definitely a fight not to be missed," said Mr Mark Powell, Managing Director of Meridian Promotions.
Abapo came into the press conference with Jerry Bandalan of the ALA Group, while Bahari was accompanied by his brother-trainer Pino.
Singaporean boxers Mohamad Nor Rizan and David Alexis will make their professional debuts against Indonesians, Hendrik Borneo and Yasser Khadafy respectively. Bantamweight Nor Rizan is one of Singapore's most promising boxers and is also the recipient of the bursary worth $3,000, given by Meridian Promotions. He has boxed in several regional and international tournaments, including the Commonwealth Championships in Kuala Lumpur and the President's Cup in Indonesia. Heavyweight Alexis is a former SEA Games bronze medalist who is making a comeback to the sport.
The title fight will also be televised 'live' on STAR Sports, Ch 24 at 10pm on Thursday, June 15.
