"MAYOL TO GET INCENTIVE IF VICTORIOUS" - OUANO

MANDAUE CITY--A juicy incentive from this city's local government awaits World Boxing Council no. 1 minimumweight contender Rodel Mayol if he successfully wrests the title from reigning titlist Eagle Kyowa when they collide on May 6 in Tokyo, Japan.

"Yes, we will give him an incentive," informs Cheryl Ouano, this city's sports development commision chairperson, although she did not divulge on the details. However, observers believe should Mayol win the world title, the incentive should exceed the amount given by Lapu-Lapu City to Gabriel Pumar, who only won a regional title in South Africa.

The 24-year-old Mayol (22-0, 17 KO's) attempts to become the only Filipino citizen to hold a world title belt on Saturday against the talented Kyowa (15-1, 6 KO's), who is a favorite going into the fight.

Reigning pound-for-pound star Manny Pacquiao, for all his popularity, does not hold a world title belt at the moment, while WBC junior fly champ Brian Viloria, although a Filipino by blood, is an American citizen.

Mayol will try to quench the country's drought of Filipino world champions when he stakes his reputation against the durable and busy-punching Kyowa.

In the undercard, OPBF bantam boss Malcolm Tunacao, who is also from Mandaue City, defends his title against Kyowa's stablemate Yasuo Kijima in another 12-round affair.

A handful of Filipino boxing fans, led by promoter Rex "Wakee" Salud, have already booked their flights to watch the fights live.

Solar Sports will telecast the bouts for Filipino viewers live on May 6 straight from the Korakuen Hall.
