World Boxing Organization Asia-Pacific chairman Leon Panoncillo, who was in attendance at the recent 1st GAB Philippine Annual Boxing Convention, heaped praises on the 4-day conclave, saying it was a step in the right direction if the nation hopes to continue producing world-class boxers.
Panoncillo, who traces his roots in the Philippines, had received a glass-encased boxing belt replica awarded to him by the GAB for the WBO's efforts in helping Filipino boxers gain recognition at the gala night attended no less by Executive-Secretary Eduardo Ermita, Chairman Eric Buhain and pound-for-pound superstar Manny Pacquiao.
The WBO exec also represented WBO president Paco Valcarcel in the convention, as the latter could not come due to pressing matters in Puerto Rico where he is based.
"The convention is indeed a world-class initiative and kudos to the people behind it," stressed Panoncillo, who quoted WBF president Mick Croucher, another delegate who also expressed his appreciation to the organizers.
The WBO Asia-Pacific continues to grow as an organization in the Philippines, giving opportunities to young Filipino fighters to vie for the regional crown.
