Undefeated World Boxing Council no. 1 minimumweight contender Rodel "Batang Mandaue" Mayol is set to spar with newly-crowned OPBF minimumweight kingpin Akira Yaegashi tomorrow in Tokyo, Japan.
Mayol's camp, led by manager Yasuo Matsuoka and trainer Brix Flores, has tapped Yaegashi as the Filipino's chief sparmate in Japan, after facing several top sparmates in the Philippines as he prepares for his May 6 duel with WBC minimumweight kingpin Eagle Kyowa at the Korakuen Hall.
The Mayol-Kyowa showdown will be aired live in the Philippines over at the vastly-popular Solar Sports channel.
Earlier, Mayol had relinquished the OPBF title to pursue a dream match-up with Kyowa, who will be seeing action in his sixth successive world title affair.
Yaegashi then vied for Mayol's vacated title against Thailand's Weerasak Chuwatana, prevailing on a fifth-round KO in Yokohama last April 3.
Mayol, who announced his upcoming world title fight to the Philippine public last Friday night during the 'Rumble at the Bay' card put up by the Games and Amusements Board for its first-ever convention, has indicated his readiness to face the dangerous Kyowa.
Considered by boxing pundits as one of the most exciting and talented fighters in the country next to Manny Pacquiao, the Mandaue City-bred Mayol holds a 22-0, 17 KO's record.
