REXON FLORES SUCCESSFULLY DEFENDS WBO ASIA-PACIFIC CROWN

Rexon Flores successfully retained his WBO Asia Pacific Flyweight Title with a convincing unanimous decision win over his #1 challenger, Terdkiet Jundaeng of Thailand.
The three judges of the fight, Mr. Virgilio de la Cruz, Mr. Edwin Sese, and Mr. Rodrigo Perez, turned in scores of 118-109, 119-109, and 118-112, respectively, all in favor of Flores.
The fight was the main attraction of the event dubbed as ?Strike for Honor WBO Asia Pacific Flyweight Championship? held yesterday at the Cavite Coliseum in Imus Cavite as staged by Ringside TV in coordination with Hon. Strike Revilla of PCSO.
True to his fluid offensive style, Flores was relentless throughout, unleashing combinations of hooks and uppercuts to the head and body of Jundaeng. After pacing himself up in the first round, Flores began to unload in the second round successfully landing the hard shots on Jundaeng and it appeared at that moment that the fight would not be going to last for long. However, the Thai proved to be of durable quality as he took Flores? shots well and was never really dazed nor his knees buckled at any moment of the fight even though he was clearly in trouble on several occasions that made one think that he was ready to go down. Flores continued his non-stop assault on his Thai opponent until the last round even in the closing moments of the fight even it was clear that he was comfortably ahead.
While it is true that Flores dominated the fight, one should not think that the Thai is an easy opponent. As a matter of fact, he had his moments in the fight several times landing some very wicked straights and hooks to the head and body of Flores. His best shots came in the eight round when he caught Flores with a big uppercut to the chin and followed shortly by a very strong right straight to the face. These shots hardly rocked Flores though, thanks to his excellent conditioning. It is noteworthy that it was Flores establishing his range and good lateral movements that allowed him to throw his usual punches effectively while minimizing those of Jundaeng who for most of the part failed to find such range.
With the win, Flores improved to 16-2-4 while inflicting the second loss of Jundaeng who was reported at 7-1 before the fight.
Bruce McTavish refereed the fight.
In the supporting main event (non-title), Alex Escaner, the reigning Philippine super-bantamweight champion, continuously pummeled his opponent, Boy Guevara, with punishing hooks to the body coupled with some shots to the head eventually wearing down the latter. The end came when Escaner landed another hook to the right side of Guevara dropping him down to win via a TKO at 2:19 of the third round.
In one of the preliminary fights, Drian Francisco, a talented prospect of former world flyweight champion Erbito Salavarria, once again demonstrated his boxing skills to defeat Rene Nival via a fourth round stoppage in a flyweight bout, thus improving his professional record to 7-0.
Completing the result of a very exciting afternoon in an event that produced four knockout victories in seven bouts:
In another flyweight bout, Ronilo Sermona won over Mark Saloma via a 1st round TKO that saw the latter fell to the canvas three times;
In a bantamweight fight, Raymond Sermona and Richard Agagad punished each other for six rounds in an explosive fight that ended in a majority draw;
Frankie Escaner halted Victor Romulo Jr. in the second round of a junior flyweight bout; and
Ni?o Magboo won over Jayson Igera by a majority decision.
