Rojas, Suriyan Make Weight for Today's Title Fight in Thailand

SRISAKET, Thailand - Both World Boxing Council (WBC) super flyweight world champion Tomas "Gusano" Rojas of Mexico and Thai challenger Suriyan Sor Rungvisai (18-5-1, 7KO's) easily made the weight limit of the super flyweight category of 115 lbs in the afternoon today (Thursday August 18) in Srisaket, Thailand.

"Gusano" Rojas of Pochote, Veracruz, will make the third defense of his WBC super flyweight world championship Friday August 19 at 2:30 pm (Thailand Time).

The battle scene will be the indoor arena for Muay Thai fights the OTOP Boxing Center Arena with a capacity for 2,000 spectators, located in the center of the city of Srisaket in the eastern part of the Kingdom of Thailand.

After the official weigh-in ceremony held today in the meeting room of Boonsiri Boutique Hotel, officials of the World Boxing Council (WBC) conducted the reading of the rules of combat and confirmed the names and nationalities of the officers in charge.

The referee in charge of the action will be of the Jack Riess of Valencia, CA of the California State Athletic Commission. The judges of the WBC will be: Daniel Van de Wiele of Belgium, Mr. Takeaki Kanaya of Japan and Mr. Burt A. Clemens of the USA. The supervisor is veteran Korean official Major Lee.

This third defense of "Gusano" (The Worm) (36-12-1, 24KO's) will be the second of six scheduled bouts on Friday's card, which is organized by the veteran promoter Mr. Surachart Pisitwuttinan, director of Thai-based Nakornloung Promotions Nonthaburi, near Bangkok.

"I'm in good shape and ready to defend my title tomorrow," commented very optimistic the popular "Gusano" Rojas while enjoying a delicious pizza, salad and spaghetti with his team.

El Gusano is accompanied in this important commitment by his manager Javier "Zorrito" Altamirano, director of Dynasty Gimnasion Altamirano located on Avenida Cuauht?moc 527, Colonia Nueva, Veracruz.

In addition, the super flyweight champion is counting with his trainer Oscar "Bofe" Lagunes, his personal physician Dr. Hector Vasquez (known "The doctor of Champions"), and his brother Armando Valledo.

Also supporting El Gusano Rojas in this remote province in Thailand are Alejandro Brito and Leon Arturo Brito de Zanfer Promotions as well as Mexican promoter Rodolfo Serafin, director of the sports marketing company MP Deportiva based in Floresta Coyoacan, Tlaipan, Mexico DF.

Philboxing will be at ringside at the OTOP Boxing Center Arena in Srisaket to photograph and report all details of the defense of the WBC super flyweight champion of the world Mexican Tomas "Gusano" Rojas tomorros in the Kingdom of Thailand.

FILIPINO SYLVSTER LOPEZ IS ROJAS #1 CONTENDER:

In this super flyweight category Filipino Sylvester "Stallone" Lopez of Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay is the current WBC # 1 contenter as well as WBC International super flyweight champion.

"Stallone" Lopez has been scheduled to battle 12-rounds against Mexican Oscar Ibarra (27-4, 18KO's) for the WBC Silver super flyweight title in Queretaro, Mexico, on September 24. The Lopez vs Ibarra title fight is also world title eliminator.
