Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista, the unbeaten prodigy from Candijay, Bohol, remains on top of the list at the online poll being conducted by Philboxing.com as the most likely candidate to become the next Filipino boxing superstar after Manny Pacquiao.

The 19-year-old Bautista, who recently signed up with Oscar De la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions for a promotional deal along with Z "The Dream" Gorres, has 49.1 percent of the total 3,768 votes cast as of yesterday, edging out fellow undefeated warrior Rodel "Batang Mandaue" Mayol, who is running at far second with 25.6 percent of the total votes.

Much of Bautista's popularity owes to his exciting and explosive fighting style and unquestioned fighting heart, with fight experts drawing parallelism with that of pound-for-pound icon Manny Pacquiao.

With a record of 19 wins with 14 victories all by knockouts, and by picking himself up from a second-round knockdown to out-punch Gerardo Espinoza in his last fight, Bautista is slowly but surely closing the gap between him and Pacquiao, who is himself closing in on Flash Elorde's reign as the greatest Filipino fighter of all times.

Countless fans, meanwhile, also put Bautista in the running as next in line to Manny Pacquiao, owing to the deal recently forged by De la Hoya's camp and the well-respected ALA group, thereby giving the Bohol wonder boy a legitimate shot at barging into the mainstream world boxing arena, where the greats ply their trade in the United States.

Ranking next to Bautista and Mayol in the on-line poll are: Randy Suico (11.3%), Z Gorres (5.8%), Bobby Pacquiao (3.8%), and Diosdado Gabi (1.7%).
