Undefeated young phenom Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista will take on Nicaraguan Roberto Bonilla in a 10-round showdown on May 20 underneath the Marco Antonio Barrera-Rocky Juarez bout at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Earlier, Mexican Hugo Dianzo was reported by Notimex to be the opponent for Bautista, but organizers apparently did not want to pre-empt a possible Philippine-Mexico war slated in November this year.
Marylyn Aceves, the publicist for Golden Boy Promotions, informed that the 19-year-old Bautista, who recently signed up with GBP, will now take on the 31-year-old Ciudad Sandino native.
The news was also confirmed by Cebu promoter Sammy "Don King" Gello-ani, who received word from GBP matchmaker non-pareil Sampson Lewkowicz, thru Leon Panoncillo, that the fight is now a go.
"WBO Asia-Pacific Bantamweight Champion Bautista will face another dangerous test when he trades mitts with Roberto ?El Chucky? Bonilla of Nicaragua in the undercard of the blockbuster fight between Marco Antonio Barrera and Rocky Juarez," Gello-ani stressed.
Barrera, who is aching for a rematch with Manny Pacquiao on November 4, headlines this card presented by HBO World Championship Boxing, AEG, Golden Boy and Staples Center.
Aside from the Barrera-Juarez title bout, two other world title bouts are on tap, with Argentinian Jorge Barrios defending his WBO junior lightweight title against Hungarian Janos Nagy.
Also, Thailand's Sirimongkol Singwancha dukes it out with Japan's Chikashi Inada for the interim WBC lightweight title.
The Nicaraguan Bonilla is coming off from a heartbreaking TKO loss to ad-interim WBA Super Bantamweight champion Celestino Caballero in their title fight last February 2, 2006 in Panama City.
The 31 year old grizzled veteran is a former WBO Latino Super-Flyweight Champion and has fought not a few notable world-rated fighters with the likes of Ricardo Vargas and Julio Cesar Avila.
It is noteworthy to mention that Bonilla has won all his fights last year with one no-contest against Luis Sandoval whom he defeated in a rematch a few months after.
