World title fight very soon for Gorres, says Golden Boy VP Gomez

Impressed with Z Gorres' exemplary fighting skills, Golden Boy Promotions vice president and matchmaker Eric Gomez believes that a world championship fight will come very soon for the ALA Boxing Gym prodigy.
"He (Gorres) will fight for the world title very soon," said Gomez, who was at the ringside when Gorres mauled Thai Waengpetch Chuwatana to win the OPBF super flyweight title via lopsided 12-round shutout Saturday night at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.
Gomez was one of the special guests of the blockbuster card together with international matchmaker Sampson Lewkowicz, WBO Asia Pacific chairman Leon Panuncillo, and American agent Michael Koncz.
Gomez said reigning WBO super flyweight title-holder Fernando Montiel is likely to relinquish his throne to campaign in a heavier weight category.
In the event is happens, Gomez said there is a possibility that Gorres will be able to vie for the vacant title.
"We've heard Fernando Montiel, the WBO super flyweight champion, is going to vacate his throne. If that happens, there's a chance for Gorres to fight for the vacant title. We will look at all the possibilities on how Gorres will fight for the title," said Gomez.
Gorres is currently ranked No.2 super flyweight contender by the WBO, No.9 by the IBF, and No.14 by the WBA. Gorres said he is anytime ready to fight for a world title once given the opportunity.
"If given the opportunity (to fight for a world champion), I'm ready for it anytime. I'll train and practice hard for it because that is my ultimate goal," said Gorres.
On the other hand, Gomez has nothing but words of praise for their prized catch from Cebu's world-famous ALA Boxing Gym of revered sportsman Antonio "Bidoy" L. Aldeguer.
"I'm very, very happy. It was solid performance by Gorres. He moves very well. He's really a world class fighter. He can fight anybody in the world," said Gomez.
Gomez said he is very much satisfied with Gorres' performance despite the latter's failure to dish out a knockout victory.
"It's okay. His opponent is a tough fighter and has a good chin," said Gomez.
The Golden Boy executive though has noticed some things on Gorres in his showdown with Chuwatana. "He wants to impress his people. He's excited instead of sticking to his gameplan. He should be cool and do his job. But I think it's an added pressure for him that we're watching the fight," said Gomez.
