GORRES IS NEW OPBF KING!

MANDAUE CITY--Z "The Dream" Gorres fulfilled his end of the bargain to give side-to-side movements, but Thai Waenpetch Chuwatana could not find his range on Gorres' midsection, as the latter dominated the visiting Thai, winning a lop-sided unanimous decision to claim the vacant Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation superfly title in the main event of the 10-bout card here.
Earlier, Chuwatana had vowed to go after Gorres' belly right at the get-go, but failed to do that as the shifty Gorres used his superior lateral skills to thwart Chuwatana's surges en route to a 118-109, 119-107, 120-106 victory.

A knockdown scored by Gorres late in the third round, and the one-point deduction made on Chuwatana in the 8th for excessive holding made matters worse for the visiting Thai brawler, who visibly got frustrated as the rounds progressed.
After sweeping the first two rounds, Gorres unleashed his bread-and-butter left uppercut late in the third, sending Chuwatana on all fours for the first time in the bout.
Chuwatana was warned for headbutting Gorres in the fourth, then was warned again for holding the back of Gorres' head in the fifth, although the local boy continued winning the rounds including the sixth.
Chuwatana took the initiative in the seventh frame, but showed more frustration than sting when he wrestled Gorres down to the canvas for the second time.
Through rounds eighth to tenth, Gorres continued dominating the limited Thai, while the latter saw a point taken off him and at the same time getting warned for stepping on Gorres' foot to give him a chance to catch the elusive fighter.
Gorres cruised through the last two rounds, but Chuwatana again wrestled him down the canvas in the penultimate round.
The win improved Gorres' record to 23-1-1, with 12 KO's, and gave him the ticket to see action in the May 20 undercard of the Marco Antonio Barrera-Rocky Juarez showdown at the Staples Center in California.
"I want to thank everyone for coming here tonight to watch my fight," said an ecstatic Gorres, referring to the jampacked crowd who came to the show.
BARDON IS NEW RP FLYWEIGHT CHAMP
In an exciting chief support, Wakee Salud protege Jojo Bardon bucked a knockdown in the second round, and counter-punched his way en route to a hairline split decision verdict over the younger Rocky Fuentes of ALA Stable.

Bardon won on two judges' scorecards, 115-113 (twice) while the third judge saw Fuentes the winner via the same score.
It was a give-and-take affair, with the two fighters giving and taking punishment in what was an extremely close fight to score, as reflected in the three judges' scorecards.
Both fighters showed class in the end, thus making a possible rematch an anticipated match-up.
Meanwhile, WBO Asia Pacific super-featherweight champ Czar Amonsot figured in a fight, as Thai Dechco Bankluaygym proved too tough for a tune-up bout. Amonsot had his hands full against the game Thai, but came through with a unanimous decision verdict, 98-92, 99-91, 99-92.

Other results: ALA Boy AJ Banal stopped Dechapol Bankluaygym in the opening round; Robert Allanic decisioned Robert Rubillar; ALA Boy Rey Caitom poleaxed Joy Adrian in the opening round; Glen Masicampo decisioned Nori Iwatani; Frank Albia decisioned Joe Galamiton; Nic Banal decisioned Rolly Baclayo; and Ninolito Jalnaiz TKO'd Noel Acasio in the second frame.
