Fresh from his fight against Sugar Shane Mosley yesterday at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, where he won a ?one-sided, unanimous decision victory,? Manny Pacquiao is now eyeing to turn into what he does best next to boxing?helping his countrymen.
The pound-for-pound king has several philanthropic projects lined up. As an active congressman representing Sarangani Province, Pacquiao wants to build one hospital for each town. The Aquino administration has helped Manny jumpstart this project by allotting P200 million for the building of a provincial hospital at the capital town of Alabel, which is already under construction. The Filipino boxing icon also promised to get the medical equipment for the hospital.
Pacquiao also asked the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) to donate eight ambulances for Sarangani in exchange f or his endorsement of the PCSO.
The People?s Champ will also give his support to the inmates at the Muntinlupa prison in a project with Rod Cornejo and the executives of the broadcast network GMA where Pacquiao is a regular talent.
Pacquiao has been called a philanthropist for his humanitarian advocacy and programs that reach out to the needy. Philanthropy means ?the love of humanity.? Wikipedia said the modern definition of philanthropy is ?private initiatives for public good, focusing on quality of life.? The Pacman has been using his own money to help his countrymen. He invests a big percentage of his money to build classrooms, hospitals and to help the poor. Manny says, ?I believe our mission in this world is not only to make money... if you get the blessing from God, we are to give some to your people, especially the poor people.?
Of course, the Pambansang Kamao will also invest in something for himself. In the past, he has bought luxury cars, ventured into businesses and threw big victory parties. This time, Manny plans to buy a house in Forbes Park, a private subdivision in Makati City where some of the country?s wealthiest families live.
The house is worth P300 million, according to Manny?s sister-in-law Janet Jamora, twin sister of Pacquiao?s wife Jinkee. In an interview at Mandalay Hotel, Janet disclosed that the world boxing champion will buy the house as soon as he gets his prize money from the Mosley fight.
Pacquiao is also planning to build the MP Mall in General Santos City, which is expected to be a multi-million project that will also rake in millions of pesos in profits.
Boxing?s number one Manny Pacquiao deserves all his hard-earned money, and how he uses it is up to him?whether he uses it to help the Filipinos, to give to the poor, to provide for his family, or to buy him the luxuries he wants. #
