Philippine no. 5 flyweight Benedict Suico and undefeated Gabriel Pumar, both of the powerhouse Wakee Salud Stable, will travel to South Africa to take on world-rated African foes on March 31.
The heavy-handed Suico (12 wins, 1 loss with 9 KO's) will challege WBC no. 4 flyweight Monelisi Myekeni in a 12-round rumble for the latter's WBC International title.
Suico is coming off a third-round demolition of Jojo Rodrigo last March 4 in Mandaue City, and is expected to give the fast-moving Myekeni problems in their encounter.
Myekeni (20-2, 8 KO's) is familiar with Filipino fighters, having faced Suico's former stablemate Wyndel Janiola on February 15, 2003 for the IBO light-flyweight title.
Another Filipino, unbeaten Gabriel "Bonbon" Pumar, gets his first overseas assignment when he takes on WBC no. 12 Tshepo Lefele, the reigning WBC International minimumweight champ in another 12-round bout.
Both Suico and Pumar will be accompanied to South Africa by trainer Juanito Ablaca. The trio will take a Philippine Airline flight to Hongkong on March 25 before taking another flight to South Africa.
Wakee Salud, who manages the two young prospects, is set to fly to South Africa on March 29 just in time for the fights. The boxing impresario wont be leaving with the group as he has his hands full with the preparations for Manny Pacquiao's fight at the Araneta Coliseum on June 25.
