While the draw no doubt is the OPBF championship showdown between Z "The Dream" Gorres and Waengpetch Chuwatana of Thailand on March 18, 2006 at the Mandaue City Sports Complex, expected to steal the thunder is the Philippine flyweight war between Rocky Fuentes of ALA Gym and Jojo Bardon of the Wakee Stable in what is shaping up as a bloodbath.

The 12-round showdown promises to be a slambang affair, sure to put even the most discriminating boxing fans on the edge of their seats.

The 20-year old Fuentes parades a 13-4-2 win-loss-draw record with 8 knockouts in 19 fights while the San Carlos City-raise Bardon boasts also of 13 wins in 23 fights with 9 losses and 1 draw and has likewise stopped 8 of his opponents.

On the basis of their credentials which show identical records of 13 wins with 8 knockouts for a relatively high 62% knockout percentage, it is quite obvious that the fight will not last the distance.

A perennial gold medalist in his amateur days, the soft-spoken Fuentes in fact won his first medallion at age 12 during the BATANG PINOY held in Bacolod City in 1998 and as he grew in years, so did his collections of more medals in regional and national competitions, including a Best Boxer Award in the Visayas Inter-City tournament.

On the other hand, the stocky Bardon established his mark in foreign soil when he scored three shocking knockouts in Jakarta, Indonesia in the middle part of his career as a prizefighter.

However, while Fuentes and Bardon had their glorious moments and a taste of modest fame, they too suffered heartbreaking setbacks in their career as Fuentes lost by knockout in Indonesia and so did Bardon when he was stopped by Sonny Boy Jaro in a title fight last year.

Since then, the two warring protagonists have bounced back and established themselves as the logical contenders for the vacant Philippine Flyweight title which both are vying for.

The classic match-up between Fuentes and Bardon is only one of the many star-studded cast lined up by promoter Sammy "Don King" Gello-ani.

Tickets are now available at Fight Club in Banilad Town Center and in USA Sports boutiques in SM and Ayala as well as in the office of the promoter with Tel. Nos. (6332) 346-3489 or 346-7104.
