Sabillo stops Echavez in R7 to retain title

Defending champion Merlito ?Jun-Jun? ?Tiger? Sabillo retained his Philippine minimumweight belt after launching heavy body punches on challenger Roger Echavez, forcing the latter to kiss the canvas in the 45th second of the 7th round.
The scheduled 12-round brawl in the 105 lbs weight division last Saturday was the main event of the fight card dubbed as ?Dynamite Gloves? at the Casino Filipino Hotel, Bacolod City.
Echavez started strong at the start of the fight, countering with his combinations and forcing the champion to momentarily back-off from his aggressive attacks. In the fourth round, Echavez was dropped twice by Sabillo, a Top Prime Stable fighter.
In the fifth and sixth rounds, Sabillo took advantage of his skills and experience to control the tempo of the match and eventually dispose of Echavez in the early seconds of the 7th round.
Sabillo remained undefeated with 16 victories, including 7 knockouts (KOs).
Meanwhile, in the undercard bouts, all Top Prime fighters of Rev. Henry Guanzon prevailed.
Brothers John-John and Rhay-Rhay Guanzon improved their records after stopping their respective opponents. John-John knocked out Bohol?s Arnel Taganas in the 54th second of the second round of the scheduled 6-round clash in the 126 lbs weight division. He improved his record to 13 wins, including 4 Kos, against a sole defeat.
For his part, Rhay-Rhay downed Roel Peligro, also from Bohol, 34 seconds after the start of the fourth round of the scheduled 8-round fight in the 118 lbs weight division. Rhay-Rhay improved his record to 9-1 win-loss card with 3 KOs.
Other Top Prime sluggers Jerry ?Dangerous? Nardo and Hermil Saguirre also triumphed over their respective opponents.
Nardo forced Jonathan Barcelona of Bukidnon to retire at the end of the fourth round of the scheduled 8-round battle in the 126 lbs weight division. Barcelona refused to continue fighting after absorbing the heavy punches of the Top Prime slugger. Nardo remained unbeaten with 9 victories, including 5 KOs.
On the other hand, Saguirre won over Ronel Omosura via unanimous decision. Judges scored the fight 40-36, 40-36, 39-37.
This weekend boxing spectacular was presented by JR Promotions and sanctioned by the Games and Amusement Board headed by Chairman Monju Guanzon.
