Current Philippine minimumweight champion Merlito ?Jun-Jun? ?Tiger? Sabillo of Top Prime Stable yesterday vowed to do his best to defend his belt against Roger Echavez of Zamboanga City today at 4pm in a 12-round brawl at the 105 pounds division dubbed as ?Dynamite Gloves? at the Casino Filipino Hotel, Bacolod City.

?I can?t predict my victory because the fight has not started yet, but I will do my best to defend my belt,? said undefeated Sabillo during yesterday?s weigh-in at Casino Filipino Hotel.

Meanwhile, the challenger Echavez told SUN.STAR-Bacolod that he will also try to win this fight for his hometown, Zamboanga City. ?I am very to face the champion not only for me but for the pride of my hometown,? the challenger added.

Echavez is currently fighting for the DDP (Democrito Diayon Plaza) Stable in Butuan City.

DDP Stable manager and coach Eduardo Sudario, whose family is hailed from Iloilo, disclosed that he is confident that his fighter will give Sabillo a hard time in the ring. He further stressed that they did not come to Bacolod for nothing and that they will take every chance to steal the show from the champion at home.

During the weigh-in yesterday, the Toboso-native champion Sabillo met the 105 lbs weight requirement when he recorded 104 lbs while Echavez weighed 103 lbs.

Meanwhile, for the 8-round battle in the 118 lbs division, Top Prime Sable?s Rhay-Rhay ?Striker? Guanzon weighed 121 lbs while his opponent Roel Peligro got 122 lbs. His brother John-John ?Pretty Boy Hitman? weighed 131 lbs as his counterpart Arnel Taganas obtained 129 lbs for the 6-round brawl in the 126 lbs division.

For the 8-round fight in the 126 lbs weight division, another Top Prime slugger, Jerry ?Dangerous? Nardo gained 127 lbs as his Bukidnon opponent Jonathan Barcelona met the weight limit with 125 lbs.

Though these fighters went beyond the weight limits but since its not a title fight, the sluggers are allowed to brawl as long as both parties agreed.

On the other hand, for the 4-round brawl in the 105lbs weight category, Hermil Saguire and his adversary Ronel Omosura of Butuan City have no problem obtaining their weights. Both entered the 105 lbs weight limits with Saguire at 105 lbs and Omusura at 104.5 lbs.

Games and Amusement Board (GAB) ? Bacolod head Jovencio ?Boy? Paroco administered yesterday?s weigh-in.

This weekend boxing spectacular is presented by JR Promotions and sanctioned by the GAB headed by Chairman Monju Guanzon.
