Reports coming out of Mexico have it that a plan is being hatched for World Boxing Council light-flyweight champ Brian Viloria to engage once again with Jose Antonio Aguirre in a grudge rematch of their 12-round war last Sunday at the Alladin Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
According to Box-latino, Aguirre has been assured of another crack at Viloria within this year by no less than Top Rank top honcho Bob Arum and his promoter Fernando Beltran.
"I feel a little under the weather, discouraged, sad for not having been crowned champion. The only thing that encourages me is the knowledge that I dished out a good fight and that many were happy with my performance in Las Vegas," Aguirre told the Mexican press following his arrival from Las Vegas, where he lost a close but unanimous decision to Viloria.
"He never really hurt me, I never felt his power, however, I almost had him on two occasions, but I could not finish him off, but that is boxing, and that's why I'm sad," Aguirre added, obviously uninformed that Viloria had suffered a broken hand in the earlier rounds, prompting Viloria's handlers to bring him to the hospital to check on the hand fracture.
The Viloria-Aguirre bout was the most well-applauded fight among the three world title bouts put up by Top Rank to headline last Sunday's "Real Warriors" card.
The rematch, if it pushes through, is expected to be even more exciting as both fighters will try to make a statement that was missing in their first encounter.
