Mandaue City, led by City Mayor Thadeo Ouano, will honor four boxing luminaries today who have brought prestige and worldwide acclaim to the country, as it rolls out the red carpet with a motorcade for Rodel Mayol, Malcolm Tunacao, Randy Suico and Z Gorres.

The four fighters, who all have what it takes to become world champions in the future, have recently won their respective bouts in Japan, Mexico and the United States, solidifying Mandaue City's claim as the "hotbed of Philippine boxing."

The motorcade is set to kick off at 3PM today in front of the Mandaue City Hall, and will pass through Maguikay, Cabancalan, Tipolo, Subangdaku, Alang-Alang, Ibabao, ABS-CBN, UV Mandaue and Mandaue City Central School.

"This is our way of thanking these great fighters for bringing honor to us Mandauehanons," said Cheryl Ouano of the M andaue City Sports Development Commission.

Each of the four fighters will also receive a cash gift of P25,000 courtesy of the city government, added Ouano.

Mayol, the WBC no. 1 contender and OPBF minimumweight champ, disposed of Lorenzo Trejo in four rounds last January 28 in Cancun Mexico.

Tunacao, the former WBC flyweight king, retained his OPBF bantam title last February 5, while Randy Suico also retained his OPBF super-featherweight belt with a knockout win on the same card with Tunacao.

Gorres, nicknamed "The Dream," decisioned tough Mexican Jose Alfredo Tirado last February 3 at the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
