DONAIRE, FILIPINO MEXICUTIONER NO. 2

"If you build it, he will come," from the movie, 'Field of Dreams.' "Anyone. I'm just here waiting. I'm a fighter. I'm just waiting for my next opponent," from The Filipino Flash, Nonito Donaire, Jr. when asked about his future.

Tonight his future was finally written. Donaire (26-1-0, 18KO) shocked the entire world with a second round TKO win over one the best Mexican world boxing champions in Fernando Montiel (44-3-2, 34KO) at the Mandalay Bay & Casino in Las Vegas and captured the WBC and the WBO bantamweight championship belts. This was the fight he has been waiting for, his field of dreams. The fight as he said before the fight, that will make or break him. Tonight, the waiting was all worth it because the drama of winning and the havoc and the devastation he brought to a strong warrior in Montiel was a sweet taste he will savor the rest of his life and boxing fans will remember for a long long time.

It was the drama of Donaire's win over Darchinyan. Montiel threw a right that missed and Donaire with lightning speed, threw a left hook that hit Montiel's head. It was the drama of Pacquiao's win over Ricky Hatton. Hatton hitting the canvas unconsciously in the second round. Montiel going down flat on his back in the second round with his legs moving up and down. A scary sight to behold. Montiel was able to stand up but staggered to regain his balance. When the referee signaled for the fight to proceed, Nonito did not waste any time, attacked Montiel like a hungry lion with a left and right combination that hit their marks. This was too much for the referee to bear and he stopped the fight right and then. Nonito teary eyed celebrated jumping up to the corner rope waving and bowing to his Filipino fans.

With the win -- and not just an ordinary win -- Donaire no doubt emerged from the shadow of his much heralded predecessor Manny Pacquiao. He created a niche for himself by dethroning the best bantamweight boxer in the world and cemented his right as one of the best pound for pound boxers in the world and placed him in a pedestal alongside his countryman, Manny Pacquiao.

Nonito entered the arena wearing red and silver robe like a Santa Claus bearer of happiness amidst a banner from a fan that reads 'Nonito for Congressman' against Montiel's white robe like Alice in Wonderland. It was like an omen coming. Donaire the aggressor in red and Montiel the peace bearer in white. Montiel no match for Donaire's aggression and suffered the only knockdown of his illustrious boxing career.

Beware, a second Filipino Mexicutioner has arrived. Of Donaire's 26 fights so far, 13 of them were confirmed Mexican born whom he defeated either by TKO or KO mostly in the early rounds except for two who went the distance. Beware, Juan Manuel Lopez, although, Nonito wanted to be an undisputed world bantamweight champion in the world, he will be knocking at your door. Mexican or not, in the very near future and if that happens, you must be ready as we the boxing fans are ready as we will be witnessing a new era of boxing greatness beyond Manny Pacquiao.
