MANILA, PHILIPPINES - The Philippine Amateur Swimming Association (PASA) will not sanction or suspend its members who are joining The Great Pinoy Peace and Unity Swim, according to PASA President Mark Josef.

Josef assured former Senator?Nikki Coseteng, president of the Diliman Foundation, Inc., who organized the swimming event, that PASA will not penalize its coaches or swimmers who will join the Philippines? attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most number of participants to swim 60 feet in relay within 24 hours.

This assurance came even as PASA head coach deliberately held a tryout event today at the Elizabeth Seton School in Las Pinas City, which Coseteng feels is equivalent to sabotaging the swim today.?

PASA, together with other organizations and associations, has pledged its support to the attempt, and therefore sees nothing wrong with its members joining the Peace and Unity swim on December 10 to 11 at the Diliman Preparatory School?(DPS), Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.

The Philippine Sports Commission, as well as the Departments of Health and Education have endorsed the Great Pinoy Peace and Unity Swim, the Philippines? attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most number of participants to swim 60 feet in relay within 24 hours.

The PSC, DOH and DepEd support the event in line with Executive Order 595 that enjoins government agencies to promote health education ?so citizens will be empowered to take care of themselves, thus preventing diseases arising from lack of physical activity.?

Philippine President Noynoy Aquino and pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao are expected to grace the attempt to bring together 6,000 swimmers.

The objective of the swim is to bring Filipinos together in a spirit of peace and unity and promote swimming as a worthwhile sport while aiming to secure the new Guinness Record.

The Philippine Sports Commission, the Departments of Health and Education, the Philippine National Police?(PNP), the Philippine Swimming League, PACE Idea, and the Philippine College of Physicians have all endorsed the event.

Popular Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) cager James Yap along with the whole B-Meg Derby Ace Team have confirmed their participation to the event. Other celebrities and personalities are expected to be around. Italy holds the current record with a total of 5,028 participants swimming a minimum distance of 60 feet or 18.3 meters in Padovanuoto, Padova, Italy in 24 hours.
