Whoever wins in tonight's explosive battle between Filipino Milan Milendo and Colombian Carlos Tamara will most likely move into a championship showdown with IBF champ Moruti Mthalane of South Africa.
This was according to Tamara's trainer Edgar Sanchez in an interview with the media yesterday moments after both fighters made weight during official weigh-in at the SM Atrium.
"The winner of this fight will most likely fight the South African IBF world champ," stressed Sanchez, who vowed his boy will put one over Milendo in what he predicts as a "Fight of the Year" candidate.
Tamara, in the same interview, said he is inspired to win this bout as a gift to his baby who is waiting for him back home. "I can't wait to come home and give my child the good news of a victory," said Tamara.
Prior to the interview, Milendo and Tamara exchanged fierce looks on each other as they took part in the customary staredown for the media. Tamara seemed annoyed at Milendo who earlier said the visiting fighter is only good for five rounds.
NOTES. Official referee for tonight's Milendo-Tamara bout is Bruce McTavish, the Angeles City-based ref who mercifully stopped Tamara from inflicting more harm on Brian Viloria early this year. McTavish will be flying in from Japan after refereeing a WBC world title fight yesterday...Let's see if Waterfront Hotel has finally solved the perennial problem of customers having real problems getting out of the parking area every after event they hold...Tamara and trainer Edgar Sanchez are so enamored with Filipino hospitality they can't wait for a victory over Milendo and come back for yet another fight here. Milendo says, "Don't say it, just do it"...An observer at the weigh-in was asking who pays for all these trips made my the peripathetic GAB boxing chief. He said the Ombudsman should be warned, but told him to get his facts straightened out. More on this later...
