LAS VEGAS--Filipino Jimrex Jaca, who is set to see action in the undercard of Manny Pacquiao-Erik Morales rematch, is a neophyte in this city of klieg lights, but that doesn't deter corporate sponsors from casting a moist eye on one of the country's finest fighters today.
Rex "Wakee" Salud, Jaca's manager who is also a very close associate of Pacquiao, told this writer yesterday that a casino-hotel has already dangled a $10,000 offer for Jaca "just to wear a cap bearing their logo at the post-fight press conference."
The company, reportedly a new establishment here in Vegas, had also dangled a $300,000 offer for Pacquiao just for the latter to wear the cap at the post-fight presser.
Salud, however, appeared hesitant to accept the offer for Jaca, as he indicated this might not be allowed by the management of the Wynn Hotel here, which is the major sponsor for the Pacquiao-Morales rumble. If no objections will be raised, Salud said he might be tempted to accept the offer for the sake of his boxer.
Jaca, a native of Sibulan, Negros Oriental, takes on John Nolasco in an 8-round, non-title tiff worth $5,000 for the Filipino, win or lose.
Jaca is set to arrive in Vegas on Friday after a few days of training at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles.
