RP welterweight boss Dondon "Supremo" Sultan impressively retained his national title after he bludgeoned challenger Cesar Yarte for a fine stoppage at the 1:35 mark of the 7th round Sunday night in the mainer of the Sinulog card put up by Sammy "Don King" Gello-ani at the Gaisano Countrymall carpark.

Sultan buckled down to work right at the get-go, rocking Yarte with his bread-and-butter right uppercut that had the challenger on the verge of a knockdown in the opening round. In the ensuing frame, the same uppercut opened a cut on the left eyelid of Yarte, prompting the ringside physician check on the bloodied challenger.

Dondon Sultan and Cesar Yarte goes toe-to-toe in this bit of action.

A tiring Sultan started backpedalling in the third, as Yarte kept charging, hoping to land a solid punch. But each time Yarte moved in, Sultan's counters and jabs kept coming in, and through rounds four and five, Yarte continued bleeding from his cut as ringside physician Dr. Jose Unabia once again checked his condition.

Yarte seemed to have no answer for the big uppercut, and by the sixth round, another uppercut from Sultan put him down for the count. After beating referee Teddy Alivio's count, the ring physician took a look once again at Yarte's condition.

Yarte was down for the 2nd time before his trainer, Juanito Ablaca, stepped in to stop the fight.

By the seventh, a glancing right downed Yarte again for the count, this time his cornerman Juanito Ablaca stepped into the ring to stop the carnage.

The win solidified Sultan's hold of the RP title, and lines him up for an April 2 fight in Japan.

Federico "Magnifico" Catubay initiates an attack against Louie Bantigue.

In the chief support, Federico "Magnifico" Catubay took the Philippine Boxing Federation flyweight title with a close but unanimous decision over Louie Bantigue. All three judges scored it 95-92 for Catubay, who was recently stripped of his Philippine title for failing to defend it within regulatory period.

Catubay scored knockdowns against Bantigue in the fourth and fifth round, although a point was deducted off him in the 8th following an accidental clash of heads that opened a cut on Bantigue.

In the other bouts, Robert "Cliff Smart" Allanic scored knockdowns in the second and fourth en route to a unanimous decision win over a tough Nonoy Devilleres. The win improved Allanic's chances to vie for the RP crown against Eric Barcelona next month in Manila.

In the other bouts, Donnie Nietes scored a lop-sided beating on Noel Veronque, 60-54 in all three judges; Rey Caitom TKO's JR Llanasa at the 1:15 mark of the 2nd round; AJ Banal also TKO'd Rodel Veronque at 2:56 of the 5th; Sherwin Paro decisioned War Bartiquel; Pedro Malco KO'd Ricky Escaner at 2:48 of the 2nd round; Rogen Flores TKO'd JR Baclayo 2:09 of the 2nd round; while Noel Sungahid KO'd Jun Mala at 1:11 of the second round.
