Youthful Jhuriel Ramonal of the Wow Magic Sing Boxing Stable of Binan retained his RP super-bantamweight title when he figured in a technical draw with Ariel Delgado (Romano Boxing Stable) in their scheduled 12-round title fight last night at the Binan Plaza, Binan City, Laguna.
It was an anti-climactic result of what could have been an explosive fight. An early clash of heads in the first round produced a cut on the left eyebrow of Ramonal, a prelude to a disappointing finish. Another clash of heads produced another cut, this time on Delgado, even though Ramonal?s earlier cut was also checked by the ringside physician. The two boxers soon engaged in furious exchanges for the remainder of the round giving the crowd moments of delight and something to look forward to. However, the excitement proved to be short-lived as Ramonal?s cut was obviously aggravated and bleeding profusely at the break prompting the ringside physician to further examine the cut. Upon the advise of the ringside physician, Referee Ferdinand Estrella stopped the bout producing an uneventful technical draw.
In the supporting main event, the comical Nelson Llanos earned a split decision victory over a lacklustre Ronelle Ferreras in their 10-round junior-flyweight bout. Two of the judges favored Llanos (96-94, 97-93) while the third judge scored it for Ferreras (96-94).
The rest of the bouts:
Richard Pumicpic was beating Rey Sumapig to the punch en route to scoring a 9th round KO over the latter in their bantamweight fight scheduled for 10 rounds;
Jeffrey Cerna put up another blue-collar performance to defeat Rex Olisa via a UD (98-92, 96-94, 96-94) in their 10-round flyweight bout;
Aljohn Ozabel was the victor over Ruel Suya after the latter was disqualified for repeated infraction in their featherweight bout scheduled for 8 rounds. The bizarre ending came in the second round when Cuya?s right targeted at Ozabel?s body was going south and landing on the side of the latter?s left thigh and injuring him in the process. The fight was called to a halt when Ozabel was no longer in a position to continue as a result of the injury following a 5-minute break awarded to him. Earlier in the round, Ozabel was also given long periods to recover for the same injury;
Jaymart Toyco scored a 5th round TKO over Mark Ian Rojas in their minimum-weight bout scheduled for 6 rounds. Rojas was successful blocking most of Toyco?s punches but his un-willingness to engage allowed Toyco a free hand to make him a virtual punching bag leaving the referee no choice but to stop the fight;
Stylist Michael Escobia defeated Ricky Oyan via a UD (an identical 58-55 in all the judges? scorecards) in their 6-round junior-flyweight bout;
Zoren Pama and Baby Marfil Jr. produced a very exciting 4-round junior-flyweight bout that fittingly resulted in a split draw (38-36 for Pama, 38-36 for Marfil, and 37-37); and
Ali Laurel defeated Delgyn Deguil via a 1st round KO (1:17) in their scheduled 4-round flyweight bout in the evening?s curtain raiser.
The event dubbed as ?Binan Boxing Festival? was presented by the TV program ?In this Corner? in cooperation with Binan City Government headed by Mayor Lenlen Alonte. Binan resident Boy Villanera was the ring announcer who did the job in his usual debonair character.
