Perth, Australia--Local star Erin McGowan showed brilliance and superstar potential with a near-flawless performance last night over the United Kingdom's Lindsey Scragg at the Arena Jundaloop here in front of a raucous crowd that came to cheer for their fighter.
McGowan worked behind a crisp jab, and surprised everyone when she took the fight to Scragg instead of just using her height and reach advantage to cruise to a victory.
Scragg, looking to be the aggressor against her much taller opponent early on, found herself on her bicycle for a good part of the fight, as the undefeated McGowan proved the busier and stronger fighter in this exciting and explosive 10-round dukeout which had the crowd on their feet throughout.
The win improved McGowan's record to 14-0, 7 KO's and 23-year-old promoter Ty Colman of CDL Promotions hopes to hold her title defense sometime in December or early next year.
"It was another great fight, and the WBO is proud to be part of this match-up. This is a historic event being the WBO's first world title bout in Australia, and the quality of this fight is definitely icing on the cake," said an elated Leon Panoncillo, the WBO Asia Pacific chairman who supervised the fight along with WBO Australia's Danny Leigh.
The event was presented by CDL Promotions of Ty Colman, who at 23 years of age is perhaps the youngest boxing promoter in the world to promote an important world title event.
