OPBF welter champ Rev "Gentle Giant" Santillan, the pride and joy of Iloilo City, has been chosen by the Games and Amusements Board as its Boxer of the Month for December following his knockout victory over Japanese Kazuhiko Hidaka last December 3 to regain his regional title.

Santillan was chosen as the GAB released it latest rankings for the month of December, citing him for his eighth-round knockout victory over Hidaka, who previously dethroned him in their first encounter last March 19.

Well-respected Japanese boxing man Joe Koizumi, who watched at ringside, dubbed the bout as one of the most exciting fights in 2005, and the OPBF Fight of the Year. The fight saw the two fighters giving and taking punishment, although Santillan came out the better fighter in the end.

The Santillan-Hidaka fight, meanwhile, will be aired today starting at 8PM over at IBC 13, as well as Malcolm Tunacao's victorious run against Thai Kumarnthong Pluemkamol for the OPBF bantam title. The telecast is sponsored by Hope, the luxury cigarettes and PLDT.
