Reigning RP Welterweight champion Dondon Sultan will defend his title this January 15, 2006 at the Gaisano Country Mall Parking Area against Wakee Salud’s prodigy Caesar Yarte at the height of the Sinulog celebrations.
Sultan, fresh from a stunning 9th round TKO victory last December 3, 2005 in Osaka, Japan against Taesei Marumoto, will see fistic action as he defends his Philippine title for the fourth time. His first defense was against Caesar Yarte last November 2002 via a 12th round knockout, then by split decision draw against Rey Pelonia last April 2003 and on the 3rd take via stunning first knockout victory over Ramil Caballes early last year at the Mandaue Sports Complex.
Co-presented by SGG Sports Promotion and US-Based outfit Stein Global Sports & Entertainment Promotions, this exciting boxing extravaganza will be shown FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC in time for the Sinulog festivities. The new team-up of SGG Sports under Sammy ‘Don King’ Gello-ani and Andrew Steins’ Stein Global Sports hopes that this will be a ‘first’ for the series of upcoming promotions here and abroad co-promoted by the duo.
“Andrew Stein of Stein Global Sports has shown great interest in Philippine Boxing. We are pleased for their all-out support to boxing especially to our Cebuano boxers,” enthuses Gello-ani. Stein, president of Stein Global Sports, will be on hand on January 15 to personally award the champions on the upcoming event.
Completing the cast will be upcoming ALA and SGG Stable boxers against young pugilists from Mindanao. Heading the supporting line-up is ALA Boy Donnie ‘Ahas’ Nietes against Cagayan de Oro’s Noel Veronque. Cliff Smart-sponsored Robert Allanic will be pitted against Nonoy Devilleres and returning Sherwin Paro against War Bartiquel while SGG Stable’s Pedro Malco will fight Roy Llanasa from Camiguin. Upcoming ALA boys Rey Caitom and AJ Banal will trade fists with Rodel Tejares and Ricky Escaner respectively. Opening the event will be former Amateur Gold Medalist Rogen Flores and Noel Sungahid for 6-round bouts against Eddie Villegas and JR Baclayo.
