John Mark Apolinario of the Yraola Boxing Stable got a piece of the WBO regional titles defeating Vincent Palicte via a unanimous decision to win the WBO Oriental Super-flyweight Crown. The fight was the main attraction of the event dubbed as ?The Next Prospects V? held last night at the Ayarata Sports Complex, Tanza, Cavite.
In a battle of boxing stylists, the two boxers proceeded to make the fight a strategic battle electing to test the effectiveness of their jabs as well as their defense. For the most part, Apolinario was the aggressor but was being caught by crisp counters from Palicte, prompting the former to think twice with his offense. Several times in the fight, Palicte even managed to hurt Apolinario with vicious shots to the head but lack of follow-up on his part allowed the latter to survive and regroup. Apolinario would then circle around Palicte and come up with quick and clean overhand shots, at times with uppercuts. Ultimately, Apolinario?s ring generalship was the key enabling him to obtain a unanimous decision victory by the score of 116-112 in all three judges? scorecards.
In the supporting attraction, 8-fight veteran Christian Avila of the Pewee Trinidad Boxing Stable of Bicol showed a lot of heart by agreeing to fight with two-time world title challenger Daud Yordan of Indonesia. For a number of rounds, the young Avila showed some grit and resilience, absorbing several headshots from Daud but managed to remain standing for quite some time. Nonetheless, it was a vicious body attack that ultimately brought him down in the 6th unable to rise for the count after absorbing several body shots from Daud. The time was 2.32 of the 6th round.
The rest of the bouts:
Froilan Saludar defeated Michael Romulo via a 3rd round TKO (1.57 seconds) in a scheduled flyweight 8-rounder when the left eye of Romulo was too swollen and ready to pop anytime;
In a battle of two undefeated fighters, it was Dennis Tubieron (8-0, 3KOs) who preserved his ?0? defeating Rey Leprenaum (4-0-1) via a UD (59-54 twice, and 58-55) in their 6-round super-flyweight bout;
Jerwin Ancajas made Leo de Guia a virtual punching bag with consistent body shots but the latter showed extreme toughness by remaining standing until the final bell losing only by unanimous decision (59-55 in all three judges? scorecards) in their 6-round flyweight bout;
In a battle of wily veterans, Michael Rodriguez upset a rather off-form Richard Garcia with a unanimous decision victory (58-56 in all three judges? scorecards);
Aljohn Osabel defeated John Rey Pasaylo via a unanimous decision (57-55 in two judges? scorecards , 56-55 in one judge?s) in their 6-round super-bantamweight bout. Osabel, who was coming off with a poor performance, was lucky to make a turnaround of the result by scoring a last round knockdown and coupled by a point deduction against his opponent for the cut he sustained from an accidental headbutt;
Carlos Suelo came up victorios winning over his more experienced opponent in Arjet Caballes in their in their 6-round superbantamweight bout. Suelo?s knockdown of Caballes in the first and second rounds plus a dominating performance easily gave him a unanimous decision victory (60-52 in all three judges? scorecards;
In a battle of welterweights, Adonis Cabalquinto was outboxing Jury Noda in their 6-round fight en route to winning via a 5th round TKO (1.14). The ringside physician assessed the bleeding on the inside of Nodas right eyelid, which was caused earlier by a legal punch, to be too dangerous for the boxer to continue and the referee rightly waved off the fight in favor of Cabalquinto.
In the evening?s opener, Jeffrey Segara pummelled Alvin Vidal?s body en route to winning a 2nd round TKO (2.39) in their 4-round super-featherweight bout.
The event was presented by SGG Sports Promotion in cooperation with Tanza Mayor Marcus Ashley Arayata.
