BAUTISTA, BARRERA CAMPS AGREE TO REMATCH, SAYS ALA

Well-respected boxing patron Antonio L. Aldeguer, whose ALA Promotions along with ABS-CBN helped put up the mammoth "Philippines vs The World" card on Sunday, has told leading radio program over DyHP-RMN "Pinoy Boxing" that the rematch between Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista and Mexican Alejandro Barrera has been agreed upon by both parties.

In a message, Aldeguer stressed that the much-awaited rematch will have to take place after Bautista's stint in a Dubai card set for October 29 against US-based Dominican Republic fighter Hector Julio Avila.

Barrera and his team had vehemently lobbied for the rematch, following what seem an inconclusive ending to their scheduled 10-rounder Sunday night at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel.

Bautista was awarded a fourth-round technical knockout victory over Barrera after the latter suffered a huge gash over his right eyelid that prompted the referee to stop the bout following the advice of ringside physician.

The anti-climactic stoppage came at a time when both fighters seemed to be in the midst of what would have been a terrific battle where both took and dished out punishment on each other.

"We want a rematch, we want a rematch," said Barrera moments after getting off the ring following the announcement of Bautista's win.

Meanwhile, Aldeguer also informed that recently-dethroned IBF light flyweight champion Carlos Tamara might be next in line for Milan Milendo, who showed tremendous improvement in his second-round demolition of Korean Jin Man-Jeun.

Tamara is best remembered for his come-from-behind victory over Brian Viloria in January in Pasay City, dethroning the latter via 12th-round technical knockout. In his first defense against Luis Lazarte in May, Tamara was himself stripped of the title via split decision.
