World-class boxing takes place in Tagum City on December 28 when the "World Caliber Encounter" boxing event unwraps with eight bouts on tap at the University of Mindanao Gym.
Reports coming out of Davao City indicate that the event is being promoted by Attorney Cris Dan Bangoy with the support of the whole Vice Mayors League of Davao del Norte, although a check with the DAvao-GAB office reveal that Willie Neri is the registered promoter for the show.
Topbilling the card is an exciting 10-round scuffle between red-hot Julius Alcos, the IBF no. 14 strawweight, against talented Cebuano star Wyndel Janiola, rated IBF no. 11 junior fly.
Janiola, managed by Stonewall Boxing and promoted by North Cotabato Governor Emmanuel Pinol, is hoping to get his first win under his new promotional outfit.
Alcos, hugely popular in Tagum City, had earlier beaten an over-the-hill Noel Tunacao, Janiola's former stablemate.
Although Alcos is expected to be the betting favorite at fight night, wise money should go to Janiola, whose underrated talent makes him one of Cebu's best-kept boxing secrets.
The rest of the card pits: Cris Besmanus versus Rolan Estancia, Ariel Austria against Sonx Alfara; Nelson Guindolan versus Argie Marapao; Arnold Seniego versus Amiro Ricablanca; Harey Cahapon against Rey Pilipino; Joel Ababon versus Balweg Bangoyan; and Rolando Omila against Jessie Albaracin.
