Filipino southpaw Diosdado "Prince" Gabi is scheduled to face former world champ Victor Burgos in a 12-round IBF flyweight eliminator in the United States, with the winner advancing to challenge IBF champ Vic Darchinyan.
The Gabi-Burgos battle will serve as an undercard to the Roman Karmazin-Alejandro Garcia IBF/WBA light middleweight unification battle slated on February 4 at a site yet to be determined.
The 26-year-old Gabi (26-2-1, 18 KO's), the former WBC International flyweight champ now based in the United States, will be up against the 31-year-old Burgos (38-14-3, 23 KO's), who hails from Tijuana, Mexico and the former IBF light-flyweight worl d champ.
"They have confirmed to me that I will go against Diosado and the winner will have the right to fight the winner between Vic Darchinyan (champion) and Luis" Titi "Maldonado, who will also fight in February," said Burgos in an interview with Box-latino.
Burgos also indicated that he will soon start preparing for the Gabi fight. "The weather is good in Mexico, and I will soon start preparing."
Gabi, meanwhile, has been training at the Wild Card Gym of Freddie Roach, along with WBO Asia Pacific bantam champ Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista.
