It will be make or break for former World Boxing Council superfly king Gerry Penalosa as he risks his reputation to Paraguayan Dario Azuaga tonight in a 10-round rumble headlining the "Rage in December" card at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
The match-up pits two exciting fighters who do not back down from a fight, in what is expected to be a boxing fans' delight.
"I know there is no retreat in his vocabulary, so we will have a fight," said the southpaw Penalosa, who did most of his training at the famed ALA Gym in Cebu before flying back to Manila last week.
Azuaga, nicknamed "El Indio De Oro" and arguably one of the most colorful fighters to ever grace the country, boasts of a scary 66-6-2 win-loss-draw record with 57 KO's, and is branded as the "Naseem Hamed of Paraguay."
Penalosa, who goes into the fight inactive for a year, sports a 48-5-2, 33 KO's slate and has made little qualms about facing popular bantam king Rafael Marquez next if he hurdles past Azuaga.
The rest of the card pits Michael Farenas of Sorsogon versus Aaron Melgarejo in a 10-round battle for the Luzproba featherweight title.
Also set to trade leathers are Baby Lorona Jr versus Rolly Laruan; Rexon Flores versus Chris Dujali; Romulo Sermona versus Jose Samson Martin; and Brian Francisco against Johary Rosia.
