Federico Catubay.

The International Boxing Federation (IBF) has just granted sanction approval for the junior bantamweight voluntary elimination fight between Filipino Federico "Magnifico" Catubay and Rodrigo "Gatito" Guerrero of Mexico.

The bout is scheduled on July 24 as an undercard to the Jhonriel Casimero vs Ramon Garcia tiff for the interim WBO light flyweight tiff at the Polideportivo Centenario, Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico.

The winner of the Catubay-Guerrero bout will be rated no. 2 by the IBF and will get the chance to vie for the mandatory status once after no. 1 Alberto Rosas shall have fought reigning champion Simphiwe Nongqayi.

Catubay is set to depart on Sunday for the US with Filipino promoter Sammy Gello-ani, and will join Casimero for training in Los Angeles. Casimero arrived in LA yesterday along with trainer Chritopher "Ping" Tepura and members of his team.

"Catubay believes he has some unfinished business in boxing, and he has remained in shape after his last fight," said Catubay's promoter Sammy Gello-ani, referring to the unanimous decision loss to Juan Alberto Rosas in the IBF superflyweight eliminator.
