Ameme camp confident versus Boom-Boom

“Boom-Boom” will be shocked!

This was the stern warning issued yesterday by Emmanuel Mlundwa, manager/trainer of the Tanzanian terror, Obote Ameme, when asked to comment on the chances of his ward against the defending WBO Asia Pacific bantamweight champion Rey Bautista.

This bold pronouncement against Bautista, the teen-aged prodigy from the ALA stable was the answer to a question posed by international promoter Sammy ‘Don King’ Gello-ani to the camp of Ameme, the East African warrior.

“Obote is never afraid of any fight. His proper fighting weight is 53.5 kg. but he has been taking fights even at 59 kg. He likes to fight," added Mlundwa, when pressed to describe his fighter.

This statement holds true as exemplified by the fight record of the granite-fisted Tanzanian which indicates several fights where he fought and kayoed heavier opponents who outweigh him by more than 5 pounds.

As for Ameme's moniker, THE THUNDER, it was explicitly explained by his manager that it is because of his ward’s punching power and also the fact that the name AMEME sounds very similar to a Tanzanian Swahili word “UMEME” which means “Thunder”.

The thunderous power of the East African is best illustrated on his credentials which bespeaks of an incredible record of 22 knockouts in 27 wins although it is tarnished with 9 losses in 36 fights.

Like the defending champion Bautista, Ameme is also known for his early knockout prowess where most of his abbreviated wins did not go beyond four rounds.

International promoter Sammy Gello-ani said upon assessing the credentials of both protagonists, “Whoever gets hit solidly will surely go down. It is not he who packs the stronger wallop that will decide the winner but he who can take a punch will be the victor.” The Tanzanian warrior will plane in earlier than usual and will be arriving in Cebu on Monday afternoon in time for a photo session with the Cebu media.

The WBO ASPAC Double championship will headline the BAUTISTA-AMEME showdown to be followed by the 130-lb. title tussle between defending champion Victor Mausol of Indonesia and another Pride of Bohol, Czar Amonsot of Tagbilaran City.

A total of 64 rounds of boxing and five amateur bouts will usher what is dubbed the biggest boxing spectacle in the history of Bohol.

Opening bouts start at 4 pm to be initiated by amateur encounter between the Best of Bohol against the Best of Cebu.

Tagbilaran City Mayor Dan Neri Lim and Governor Erico Aumentado have arranged the fights to be held early at 4 pm and to have the Bautista-Ameme fight to commence at 7 pm and the rest of the bouts to follow afterwards.
