Filipino Pederito Laurente of the Johnny Elorde Stable nailed the regular Pan-Asian Boxing Association (PABA) superbantam title after he stopped Korean Pal Man Shim in the second of their scheduled 12-rounder at the on-going 84th WBA annual convention in Seoul, South Korea.

The Iloilo-raised Laurente reportedly was too much for the Korean, as he hurt the latter early with a variety of shots before knocking down his foe twice late in the opening round.

By the second frame, Laurente upped his attack, this time pinning his Shim through the ropes before referee Chalerm Prayadsad of Thailand mercifully stopped the fight at the 22-second mark of the round.

In the main event, Japan-trained Venezuelan Jorge "El Nino de Oro" Linares, managed by Akihiko Honda of Teiken Promotions, proved why he is dubbed the Golden Boy as he stopped Thai Denchai Sor Tiebkoon in the opening round.

The undefeated, 20-year-old Linares, who is dubbed a younger version of Oscar De la Hoya among fight fans, improved his record to 18-0, 11 KO's after the win.

In his previous fight, Linares decisioned Filipino Ayon Naranjo, before the latter complained of dizziness which prompted authorities to send him to the nearest hospital for immediate treatment.

Naranjo is now back in the Philippines, well and fully-recovered.
