
FARENAS FACES NICARGUA?S AGUILAR IN MARGARITO-GARCIA UNDERCARD

Super featherweight Michael Farenas, a prot?g? of former world two division champion Gerry Penalosa was scheduled to leave for Aguascalientes, Mexico on Wednesday or Thursday for his eight round showdown with Nicaragua?s 22 year old Marlon Aguilar. He is now in Los Angeles.
The fight will be on the undercard of the Top Rank promotion headlined by WBC International super featherweight title fight between Jorge Solis (38-2-2, 28 KO?s) and Mario Santiago (21-2-1, 14 KO?s) and the return of former WBA welterweight champion Antonio Margarito (37-6, 27 KO?s) against promising Roberto Garcia (28-2, 21 KO?s).
Also featured will be hard-hitting lightweight Urbano Antillon 27-1, 20 KO?s) against .Rene Gonzalez (27-1-1, 21 KO?s).
The giant broadcast network ABS-CBN will telecast the fights over Studio 23 beginning at 11:00 a.m.
The 25 year old southpaw Farenas is has had some impressive wins in the US and Mexico but had also notched up a few victories over certified Thai patsies in Manila.
Farenas made his US debut with a rousing 2nd round TKO over Arturo Valenzuela at the Mandalay Bay Resort Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on October 6, 2007 and then scored a 3rd round TKO over Baudel Cardenas on March 15, 2008.
The power-punching lefty went eight round with Fermin De Los Santos before winning a unanimous decision on May 17, 2008 before he scored a smashing 1st round knockout over veteran Walter Estrada on May 1, 2009. He figured in a two-round no decision against Joe Morales in his last fight on March 13, 2010 after clobbering badly overmatched Thai Sathian Sokhom to score a 1st round knockout at the Mandaluyong City Gym on January 8 this year.
Farenas (27-2-3, 24 KO?s) won the vacant featherweight title of the fringe World Professional Boxing Federation on October 3, 2009 with a 9th round knockout over Jae Bong Jang of Korea.
Aguilar (23-9-1, 17 KO?s) is coming off a majority decision over eight rounds against Freddy Oporta on March 26 this year after earlier scoring a 1st round knockout over Efrain Martinez on February 27.
However, Aguilar earlier suffered a 4th round TKO at the hands of former world bantamweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez on December 16, 2009 in a clash for the vacant WBC International featherweight title.
