BAGUIO CITY ? The Philippine Blu Girls, seeing action in the men?s side of competitions, showed the way to BRMP of Benguet, 9-2, even as Rizal Technological University overwhelmed Baguio City, 11-3, to become the first team to make it to the crossover semifinal round of the 2002 Cebuana Lhuilllier-National Open Softball Championships at the Baguio Athletic Bowl here.

Working behind Joyce Lasquete?s no-hit, no-run two-inning start and her teammates 10 connections off a pair of host hurlers, the Blu Girls, whose participation here makes up for their lack of international exposure on the way to the coming Asian Games, decided the issue right at the bottom of the first inning where they scored three runs.

Back-to-back singles by lead-off batter Sarah Agravante and Gina Salvador-Bacus and the indecisiveness on the Benguet defenders saw both and Dione Macasu scoot home as the debuting Blu Girls of coach Ana Santiago roared ahead never to look back.
?Magandang umpisa. Although hindi naman kami umaasang mananalo ng titulo, kailangan talaga naming to win as many as possible in our preparation for the Asian Games,? Santiago said after her win.

The RTU Blue Thunders rained a pair Baguio hurlers with 13 hits, five of them coming in the first and third frames in securing their fourth straight victory and moving to within one more win to sweep the six-team Group A of the two-group the men?s play of the series supported by Pera Padala, Cebuana Lhuillier Insurance Solutions, Cebuana Lhuillier Bank, Philten, Just Jewels and Le Soleil de Boracay.

?Isa na lang at sweep na. Sana magtuloy-tuloy na,? RTU coach Noel Bumagat said.

?Sayang nga wala ang Air Force, sana mas maganda ang laban,? he added, in reference to the withdrawal of defending champion Philippine Air Force.

Dasmarinas of Cavite handed R and R of Benguet its first loss in three games with a masterful 6-1 triumph, in the process barging into the win column following three unsuccessful starts.

Joemar Valderama and Esme Sta. Maria joined forces in Bulacan State University?s 12-0 shutting of St. Louis University of Baguio, also in the men?s category.
