The first time Juan Manuel Marquez (50-5-1, 37 KO?s) beat Juan ?Baby Bull? Diaz (35-3, 17 KO?s) it was chosen as ?Fight of the Year.? Now Marquez says that Diaz deserves the rematch and he is hoping it will once again be the top fight in 2010.
Golden Boy Promotions which appears to be stepping up in its efforts to sign up promising young prospects and to launch a series of title fights on pay-per-view with the backing of HBO, announced officially that the rematch will take place at the Mandalay Bay Resort Hotel and Casino on July 31.
At stake will be the WBA and WBO lightweight titles.
Diaz said ?a lot of people are saying this is a must win fight for me. But I don?t feel it that way. I see it as redemption. This fight has been at the back of my head and I?m going to pick up where I left off ? the ninth round.?
That was the round in which Diaz who appeared to be winning saw Marquez rally in the last two rounds to cut Diaz near his right eye and then landing two vicious uppercuts that led to the stoppage as Diaz wilted.
To Marquez there are two reasons to fight Diaz again saying ? Number 1, he is a great fighter and deserves a rematch and No.2 people want to see this kind of fight.?
