RIC RIC MARATA PASSES AWAY

Ric-Ric Marata who was picked by Alaska along with Bong Alvarez and Elmer ?Boy? Cabahug in what was considered the richest Annual Draft in PBA history in 1989 and was always an attraction on the court has passed away in New York. He was 56.

Aside from Alaska Milk, Marata also saw action for Sta Lucia Realty, Shell, Sunkist and Pop Cola and was one of the quickest guards in the pro league.

Marata played for none seasons in the PBA from 1989 to 1997 and averaged 6.8 points a game in a total of 397 games.

Former PBA superstar Abe King who is chairman of the PBA Legends USA Foundation informed us Saturday that Marata played the last two games of his life in Novemner 2009 wuth the PGA Legends in New Jersey and Maryland in a project to help raise funds for the victims of typhoon Ondoy and to provide education grants to deserving poor students in the Philippines.

Marata is survived by his wife Chato and his children Jr, Danica and Nico.
