Unbeaten junior middleweight Shawn Porter, who gave pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao some rough moments at the beginning when Freddie Roach brought him in as a sparring partner, has continued his rise to prominence with a spectacular first round knockout of Raul Punzon before a noisy crowd in Salisbury, Maryland.

With the win Porter improved to 14-0 with 11 knockouts and even though Pinzon didn?t make the contracted weight limit and Porter had to fight at middleweight it didn?t prove to be a problem for the hard-hitting youngster who is definitely a prospect who has to be reckoned with in the near future.

Pinzon came in at 161 pounds on fight night while Porter moved up to 158 ?.

Porter took a little time to find his range and his rhythm but when he did it was all over. Porter who has power in both hands and a vicious hook to the body nailed Pinzon who dropped to 17-5 with 16 knockouts with a thundering overhand right.

Pinzon fell face first on the canvas and was counted out at 2:39 of the opening round.

Porter was coming off what to his fans may have been a disappointing ten round decision in his last fight but the 22 year old showed early that he didn?t plan to spend too much time in the ring against Pinzon who had actually lost three of his last four fights.

Porter used a couple of stinging jabs to set the tone and quickly drove Pinzon to the ropes. Midway through round one Porter began to find the range with his devastating right and soon caught his defensive-minded opponent with a shot to the head and referee Gary Campones counted out the hapless Pinzon.
