CASIMIRO?S TITLE FIGHT AGAINST CALDERON SET ASIDE BY WBO

Casimiro.
In another one of its inexplicable if not dubious maneuvers the World Boxing Organization has set aside the scheduled title fight of undefeated and hard-hitting Interim light flyweight champion Johnriel Casimiro against undefeated Puerto Rican world champion Ivan Calderon (33-0-1, 6 KO?s) originally set for June 12 in New York where there is a large Puerto Rican population.
Instead, Rick Reeno of the widely read boxingscene.com, says he was advised that a double-header was just about finalized for June 12 at the WaMu Theater in New York?s Madison Square Garden in which Caledron will defend his title in the main event against Mexico?s Jesus Iribe (17-6-4, 10 KO?s)
Casimiro (14-0, 8 KO?s) has apparently been relegated to face Mexico?s Ramon Garcia Hirales (12-1-1, 8 KO?s) for what has been billed as the WBO?s interim junior flyweight title, raising the issue of why Casimiro who is the interim champion having scored a sensational 11th round TKO over dangerous Cesar Canchilla after dropping him no less than five times, is made to fight again for a title he now holds.
The apparent sop being offered the 20 year old Filipino Casimiro is that should he win he will face the winner of the Calderon-Iribe fight for the title later this year.
The southpaw Garcia won the vacant WBC International light flyweight title when he outpointed Venezuela?s Jose Luis Varela (15-7, 7 KO?s) on May 30, 2009 in La Paz, Mexico. In a defense of that title he scored a 2nd round TKO over Michael Arango on February 13, 2010.
Interestingly, Iribe is not rated by the WBO but is ranked No.10 by the IBF while Garcia who is scheduled to fight Casimiro is rated No. 5 by the WBC.
Iribe is coming off a 6th round TKO victory over 30 year old Valentin Leon who had a record of 19 wins as against 20 losses, 3 draws with 8 wins by knockout when he fought Iribe who had previously dropped a unanimous twelve round decision to IBF champion Brian Viloria in Honolulu on August 29, 2009.
Calderon figured in two controversial fights against Filipino Rodel Mayol salvaging a highly controversial technical 6th draw due to an accidental clash of heads on June 13, 2009 and then winning by a 7th round technical decision when the same thing happened on September 12, 2009.
Since then Mayol went on to fight WBC champion Edgar Sosa and won by a 2nd round TKO although that too was controversial since a head-butt by Mayol was later found to have fractured the cheek of Sosa.
