The opportunity for former International Boxing Federation ?IBF-world minimum weight champion Florante Condes (23-5-1, 20 KO?s) to earn a shot at the No.1 mandatory challenger?s spot has been lost for the time being.
The chairman of the IBF Championship Committee Lindsey Tucker has informed the guardian of Condes, Apolinar Valencia about the latest developments after Valencia responded to Tucker?s email asking him whether Condes would accept the offer of a eliminator for the No.1 spot against South Africa?s Tshepo Lefele who is 29 years old and has a record of 17-3 with 11 knockouts.
At the same time Valencia informed the IBF that Condes ?has no promotional contract with Sammy G ello-ani,? the Filipino promoter had abandoned Condes prior to his title eliminator against Nkosinathi Joyi last June 26, 2009 in South Africa which Condes lost after which Condes and his guardian said they didn?t wish to deal any longer with the Filipino promoter.
Valencia made the clarification after Gello-ani claimed in an email to Tucker that he is now the promoter of Condes and that he was available for the planned eliminator.
Joyi went on to win the world title handily from Raul ?Rayito? Garcia of Mexico who had in turn won it from Condes in a somewhat controversial split decision in Garcia?s hometown of La Paz, Mexico on June 24, 2008.
In his email to the IBF, the guardian of Condes asked Tucker to ? kindly consider the fact that Condes is getting married on April 28 and is now in his home province of Romblon making the necessary preparations for his wedding. Because of this he would clearly need time to train for the title eliminator after his wedding and honeymoon.?
Valencia requested the IBF executive to ?take these facts into consideration before deciding on a possible schedule for the title eliminator.?
However, in an email Thursday to Valencia, Tucker said ?we are going to bypass Florante Condes at this time because he is unavailable.?
At the same time he said ?we want to congratulate him on his plans to married and we wish him the best of luck.?
Tucker assured Valencia that the IBF ?will consider Condes for any IBF title fights or eliminators that he qualifies for after his marriage.?
