The Philippines Reynaldo ?Boy of Steel? Belandres has been knocked out by Australia's Billy ?The Kid? Dib in an eight round featherweight bout at the Star City Hotel and Casino in New South Wales on April 8.
Belandres who had a record of 13-1-2 with 8 knockouts was coming off a ten round unanimous decision over veteran Jaime Barcelona last February 14 and although Belandres dropped Barcelona in the 2nd and 4th rounds he failed to put the wily veteran away.
The only loss suffered by Belandres was against Australian Davey Browne when he dropped a ten round unanimous decision in a clash for the WBC Youth featherweight title last October 9, 2009.
Dibb, long regarded as one of Australia?s brightest prospects backed up that contention with an impressive performance against Belandres.
The Aussie dropped Belandres who was counted out by referee John Cauchi at 1:46 of the sixth round to take his record to 26-1 with 14 knockouts.
Dibb's only loss was a twelve round unanimous decision in a WBO title fight against then champion Steven Luevano on October 18, 2008.
Dibb was coming off a 6th round knockout over Carlos Lopez of Indonesia in a fight where he took out Lopez with a brutal body attack.
Prior to the Lopez fight, Dibb scored an eight round unanimous decision over Roel Mangan one of ten Filipinos the Australian has beaten, on December 18, 2009.
