Florante Condes.
The failure of the Games and Amusements Board to promulgate its decision on the case of former IBF world minimum weight champion Florante Condes against his manager Aljoe Jaro during the chairmanship of Eric Buhain who was appointed to a position in the Bureau of Immigration last March 15, has hurt the boxer?s chances of earning in a fight scheduled in Cebu recently.
With Buhain out and Officer-in-Charge, Commissioner Juan Ramon Guanzon not reporting to the office and the reported replacement for Buhain, Aurelio Lacson also not having reported as yet, the GAB is virtually headless at the moment and important issues such as that involving Condes remain un-acted upon.
The aunt of Condes, Ms. Marilou Valencia told us that the GAB boxing division had informed her they would have to get the approval of Aljoe Jaro before Condes could accept a fight because he was still the manager until the GAB ruled otherwise.
However, Buhain himself had placed Condes under ?the protective custody of the GAB? when the trouble broke out which enabled Condes after a long delay to defend his title in Mexico against Raul ?Rayito? Garcia who won the title in a controversial split decision.
Garcia subsequently lost the title to Nikosinati Joyi in South Africa after Joyi beat Condes in a IBF title eliminator where Condes was again a victim of handlers who abandoned him in South Africa.
Condes, according to Ms. Valencia. had trained hard and was eagerly looking forward to his return to the ring but left for his home province of Romblon after the GAB declined to sanction his fight unless it was cleared by Aljoe Jaro.
The GAB decision is seriously questionable when you realize that Condes fought a world title fight and a world title eliminator without having to obtain a clearance from Aljoe Jaro but since Buhain is no longer the chairman, whoever is in charge has apparently changed the rules.
We learned that Condes will sit it out until his contract with Aljoe Jaro expires on June 10 because of the failure of the GAB to hand down a decision after over a year and after having conducted hearings on the case.
