Reigning World Boxing Organization Asia-Pacific bantam king Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista will be honored with a special award by the organizers of the on-going 19th Visayas Inter-City Developmental Amateur Boxing Championship in Tagbilaran City for bringing honor to all Boholanos in the world stage.

This was divulged yesterday by tournament director Nemesio Monton, in an interview with this writer. Monton also indicated that sportsman Tony Aldeguer, who charts Bautista's career, will also get another award.

The on-going tournament, also dubbed as Mayor Dan Neri Lim Cup, pits young boxers 16 years old and below, and is being held in Tagbilaran's Island City Mall, although a neighboring town, possibly Albor or Dauis, also gets a chance to hold it for a day.

The tournament, which will last until Sunday, officially kicks off today, with PSC Chairman Butch Ramirez and Tagbilaran City Mayor Dan Neri Lim in attendance.

Yesterday, all participants to the event had already arrived, while the weigh-in, medical check-up, and matching of the boxers were held.

Today's official start of the tournament will be highlighted by a grand parade at 2PM, and tournament proper follows thereafter.

Host Tagbilaran City, which has alloted a budget of P100,000 for the event, has fielded one team, while Bohol Province and Bohol Selection, made up of fighters from Balilihan, Talibon and Cortes, are fielding one team apiece.

Other teams seeing action are defending champion Cebu, Bacolod, Cadiz, Dumaguete, Mandaue City, San Carlos City, Talisay City, Tacloban City, and Misamis City in Leyte.

Among the categories to be competed in are: Kalamay Weight (32 kg); Minimumweight (34 kg), Powderweight (36 kg); Vacuumweight (39kg); Paperweight (42kg); Pinweight (45 kg); and Light flyweight (48 kg).
